| Vocational Rehabilitation
Clients:(Those who are seeking or maintaining competitive employment)
Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists (counselors) are the sole Case Managers for all vocational rehabilitation services. One of its major services is counseling to assist the blind, deaf-blind and visually impaired persons find or keep their employment. Ho'opono has three Rehabilitation Counselors. Two counselors are assigned blind and visually impaired cases and the third counselor serves mainly deaf-blind cases. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors conduct the assessment and evaluation of blind or visually impaired clients, and provide vocational counseling, training, access technology job placement, and follow up services. |
| General Services Clients:
(Those 55 years or older and or not returning to competitive employment)
Rehabilitation Teachers work with clients in their homes to learn new adaptive living skills, utilizing their residual fundtional skills by using low tech devices (i.e. talking watches, calculators, timers, writing guides, and large print address and check books). The major goal of rehabilitation teaching is for individuals to maintain their independent living as long as possible to maintain their individual life style and dignity. |
