The Low Vision Clinic provides an optometric examination to visually impaired persons to determine whether they can benefit from special optical aids. Anyone whose vision cannot be corrected with conventional glasses is eligible for services at the clinic upon a written referral from their ophthalmologist or optometrist. Individuals who are having difficulty in carrying out their work and personal activities because of limited vision should be referred.
The optometrist and the social worker in the Low Vision Clinic assist the patient in selecting appropriate optical aids to maximize the use of his or her remaining vision. The staff ophthalmologist is also available for special consultations and examinations.
The examinations are free, as are other services at Ho’opono. However, the patient is expected to pay for any aids ordered in the clinic.
The clinic operates on Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on Thursdays as needed. Patients are seen by appointment only. The clinic social worker, is available for inquiries Monday through Friday at (808) 586-5281.
